EC member hails Georgia's European choice

Johannes Hahn, Member of the European Council, Representative of the European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations to Georgia, addressed the Georgian people, congratulating the nation on the ratification of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement by European Parliament.

Hahn believes that Georgia was one of the frontrunners of the European Union's Eastern Partnership Policy.

"This Association Agreement is the result of Georgia’s European aspirations. It is your European choice, as well as interest of the European Union to help build a democratic, stable and prosperous country in the region. It is of key strategic importance,” Hahn said, addressing the Georgian citizens.

Members of European Parliamentapproved the Association Agreement by 490 votes in favor to 76 against with 57 abstentions on December 18.

The Association Agreement deals were signed by Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova and the EU representatives in Brussels on June 27, 2014.

The document includes the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area for gradual approximation of these three countries to the EU and preparation for potential membership in the union in future.

Georgia attaches vital attention and importance to the integration into the European Union.
