The U.S. government has launched a new five-year project titled "Governing for Growth (G4G) in Georgia" to support Georgia’s economic reforms.

The U.S, Agency for International Development officially launched the new $19.3 million project in Tbilisi on December 11.

Stephen Haykin, USAID Mission Director, once more emphasized the US government’s strong support for Georgia’s economic development.

The G4G was designed to enhance governance in specific business areas, including tax and customs administration, trade facilitation, land registration, electricity trading policy and water resource management.

"We believe that a quality, inclusive dialogue, and especially a well-informed evidence-based policy making will lead to passing of laws that work more effectively with better compliance”, said Milo Stevanovich, G4G Chief of Party.

The G4G will begin in those spheres where the other USAID projects have been left off earlier. The EPI (Economic Prosperity Initiative), HIPP (Hydropower Investment Promotion Project), and HPEP (Hydro Power and Energy Planning) projects boosted Georgia’s competitiveness in energy, agriculture, trading, and manufacturing fields of great significance, as well as improved Georgia’s business environment.

The G4G aims to intensify support for Georgian-led reform efforts based on the gains from the previous initiatives. The project will be directed to build a culture of collaborative consultation where policies and laws will benefit from a constructive public input.
