The Georgian Airways Company resumed flights to Moscow on December 12, saying its demands have been partly met. Earlier the company complained about unequal conditions for participation in the market set in the recent Russia-Georgia contract about resuming direct flights.

The Tbilisi-based air carrier said the government has assured that its demands will be met step by step.

"If the process does not go ahead smoothly, we will continue to strike,” said Tamaz Gaiashvili, Head of the Council General of Georgian Airways.

Earlier on December 10, the company's management cancelled flights protesting against the recent Russia-Georgia contract about resuming direct flights. The Georgian airways believed that it is formulated in the interests of Russian companies.

Leading tourism agencies in Georgia supported the Georgian Airways Company's strike, which threatened to paralyze the Tbilisi International Airport in case of failing to meet their demands.

The airline put forth seven demands including an immediate nullification of a note, delivered to Russia on July 8, permitting the Russian companies to enter Georgia and launch regular flights between Tbilisi and Moscow.

Tbilisi-Moscow-Tbilisi flights were resumed this autumn after long-lasting negotiations between the two countries. A special meeting between special envoy of Georgian Prime Minister on Russian issues Zurab Abashidze and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin was mainly focused on this issue last year.

Following the meeting, the Russian inter-departmental commission, standing for authorizing air carriers to operate international routes, granted permission to several Russian airlines to resume flights between Moscow and Tbilisi.

Tbilisi-Moscow-Tbilisi direct flights were halted after Russia and Georgia clashed in August, 2008, in Tskhinvali (South Ossetia), a breakaway region of Georgia.
