Georgia and China take steps to boost economic and social relations, Georgia’s capital Tbilisi and one of China’s largest cities Guangzhou signed a cooperation memorandum on November 30.

The agreement aims to encourage the Georgian and Chinese entrepreneurs to establish relationships and develop bilateral cooperation.

Guangzhou Mayor Chen Jianhua and Tbilisi Mayor Davit Narmania inked the memorandum at a special international conference in China, attended by 260 mayors from 56 countries.

"The new relationship is important for us, since Guangzhou is one of the leading innovative cities in the region and this kind of relations is also our priority,” Narmania said.

Narmania added that the memorandum would encourage active cooperation in investment and tourism areas.

The Guangzhou Mayor, in turn, said he was interested in launching flights between Tbilisi and Guangzhou, which would further develop tourism and economic cooperation between the two cities.

Narmania initiated to arrange a business forum for major Chinese companies in Tbilisi to let them know about Georgia’s business environment.

The two sides also shook hands to increase exports of Georgian wine to China.
