Georgia gains $750M from tourism in six months

Over the first six months of 2014, Georgia’s income from international tourism stood at $750 million or 43 percent more than in the same period of 2013.

On Nov. 7, the Economy Ministry of Georgia said that in Q1, the share of tourism in GDP was 5.89 percent, and 7.2 percent in Q2.

It should be borne in mind that the greatest flow of tourists to Georgia is seen in Q3 when the tourism season peaks in the period between July and August, and beginning of September.

A large number of tourists also come to Georgia closer to the New Year holidays, especially to the mountain resorts.

In 2013, Georgia’s international tourism revenues totaled $1.719 billion.

Georgia was visited in 2013 by 5,392,303 people, or 20 percent more than in the previous year (4,428,221).

In the first nine months of this year, Georgia was visited by 4,187,595 people.
