U.S still lacks decision on Ukrainian aid

01 March 2014 [11:35] - TODAY.AZ
U..S. is undecided for the time being about the methods of providing aid to Ukraine, White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters Friday, ITAR-TASS reported.

He said the U.S. Administration is considering all the possible options, including loans but no decision has been taken yet regarding supplementary assistance to Ukraine.

Carney also indicated that this aid might be provided in addition to the funds Ukraine would get in the future from the International Monetary Fund.

Also on Friday, Danish Foreign Minister Martin Lidegaard said in an interview with Ritzaus Bureau news agency that Denmark would offer financial aid to Ukraine through the EU only after the IMF drafted a comprehensive plan to help the crisis-stricken former Soviet republic get on its feet.

He said his country would allocate aid for Ukraine only after all the parties to the process gave their approval to it. As for this moment, any allocations might be too risky due to the situation there.

Lidegaard urged all the parties to the political and social conflict in Ukraine to try and meet each other halfway, saying that Ukraine should remain a united country.

It is important for all the sides in Ukraine to proceed from this and to embark on the economic reforms and a salvation plan, but peace in the country is a precondition for it in any event, he said.
