Iran sticks out for action to promote nuclear disarmament

Iran has renewed calls for stronger global action to promote nuclear disarmament at an international level.

Iran's envoy to the UN Mohammad Khazaei said that stronger action is also needed to support countries that have signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty, NPT in their struggles to obtain peaceful nuclear technology.

The Iranian envoy was speaking at an extraordinary meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement at the UN premises to discuss the Movement's positions regarding the NPT Review Conference.

He went on to note that an upcoming NPT Review Conference must avoid any changes to the treaty that would be tantamount to double standards.

Khazaei also said that Iran is strongly against any selective changes that would violate the rights of NPT member states.
