Public transport fares are to increase by 10-15 per cent in the next Iranian calendar year which begins on March 21, ILNA quoted Tehran deputy mayor Hamzeh Shakib as saying.
An increase in the fares of taxis, buses and the subway system will be ratified by parliament by the end of the current year, he noted.
Jafar Tashakkori Hashemi, the deputy mayor of Tehran for transportation, has said that taxi fares should be increased proportionate to the inflation rate in order to prevent them from becoming poorer, Jam-e Jam daily reported.
The Central Bank of Iran announced that the inflation rate in the 12-month period ended on the tenth Iranian calendar month of Dey (January 19) rose by 1.3 per cent compared to the 12-month period ended on December 20, 2012 and hit 28.7 per cent, according to the Mehr News Agency.
