Tehran-Ankara ties are 'excellent'

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast, in a meeting with mayor of Turkey's eastern city of Erzurum described Tehran-Ankara relations in all fields 'excellent', IRNA reported.

Mehmanparast, who is in Turkey heading a media delegation, in a meeting with Erzurum Mayor Ahmet Kucukler, by referring to vast historical and cultural commonalities between the two nations, said that Iranians love Turkey and more than 2 million Iranians travel to Turkey annually.

'We hope that Turkish people pay visits to Iran, too,' said Mehmanparast.

He expressed hope that cooperation between municipalities of cities of the two countries can play a role in increasing cooperation between the two sides.

He noted that one of the ways of increasing interaction between the two countries is consultation and media cooperation.

Ahmet Kucukler, for his part, said that his city has tried to increase mutual ties in all levels.

Kucukler, who is a member of Turkey ruling Justice and Development Party, added that although relations between governments are important, ties between municipalities have an important role in developing relations.

Eastern city of Erzurum has a population of 367 thousand and is capital of Erzurum province and has a big role in commercial ties between Turkey and Iran.
