10 December 2012 [15:07] - TODAY.AZ
Georgia is ready for a solid and constructive dialogue with Russia, special representative of the Georgian Prime Minister on Russian-Georgian relations, Zurab Abashidze told reporters on Monday while commenting on Sergei Lavrov's statement.

Abashidze welcomed the statement made by the Russian Foreign Minister yesterday, who said that a meeting of representatives of the parties will be held in the near future.

"I confirm that my informal meeting with the Russian Federation's representative will be held in the near future. The place and time of the meeting in Europe is being specified. We also reacted positively to the comments made by the Russian Foreign Minister that Moscow is ready to restore trade and economic relations with Georgia," he said.

Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze said at a press briefing on Monday that Abashidze's meeting with the Russian Federation's representatives will be held this week.

Military action was launched in the Georgian region of South Ossetia on Aug.8, 2008. Later Russian troops occupied the city of Tskhinvali and drove the Georgian military back. Russia recognised the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in late August.
