Turkey demand Israel to clear 'violation of Northern Cyprus airspace'

17 May 2012 [18:18] - TODAY.AZ
Turkey has demanded on Thursday from Israeli authorities an explanation over an Israeli jet's violation of airspace of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on Monday, TRT Haber TV Channel reported.

Turkish General Staff said in a statement on Wednesday that Israeli fighter jet violated airspace of Turkish Cyprus on Monday for five times for eight minutes in total.

In response Turkey scrambled military jets to intercept an Israeli plane.

Israeli jets in recent years have repeatedly violated the airspace of Northern Cyprus as a response to the hydrocarbon exploration by Turkey and Northern Cyprus in the territory of the latter.
