15 May 2012 [15:57] - TODAY.AZ
Georgia will independently continue competing for the right to host the European Football Championship in 2020, Georgian Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Lado Vardzelashvili said at a special briefing today.

The minister said that it was initially planned to submit a joint bid with Azerbaijan to hold the European Football Championship in 2020 in the two countries. However, after consultations at a state level, it was agreed that Baku will continue to compete to hold the Olympic Games in 2020 and Georgia will submit a bid to host the European Championship-2020.

Vardzelashvili said that the deadline for bid submission expires today. Therefore, the Georgian side will present it today at the League headquarters.

The Minister stressed that new stadiums will be built in Lanchkhuti, Batumi and Zugdidi this year. Moreover, there are the existing arenas in Tbilisi, Gori, Kutaisi and Rustavi. One can say that the necessary infrastructure will be created in the country.

"The existing hotels in the country and a network of airports will be fully ready by 2020 as tourism is developing in the country and we expect five million tourists this year," he said.
It should be stressed that at present, only Turkey has made a bid to host the European Football Championship-2020.
