
“The dialog between EU and Azerbaijan is very strong, regular and institutionalized. We have regular contacts. Our discussions are very open. Sometimes we agree, sometimes we disagree, but it is healthy, that we can talk about everything”, head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, Roland Kobia said.
He noted being elected as UN Security Council non-permanent member Azerbaijan had raised itself higher on the international map. “2012 will be very important for Azerbaijan with a lot of international attention. You will be on the top of the world agenda, all the spotlights will be on the Azerbaijan looking what position you take in UN Security Council”, the ambassador said. He said that EU ready to share its experience in this issue: “This will be very challenging thing. The EU is ready to support and give helps in that. We have two EU permanent members in UN SC and EU experienced in this. And Azerbaijan can rely on EU as a friend. We look forward for a good collaboration with Azerbaijan in the SC.”
Commenting the gas deal between Azerbaijan and Turkey signed this year, Kobia welcomed it, adding that the deal would benefit both Azerbaijan like gas supplier country and the EU like gas consumer. “We have mutual interest and mutual understanding on this particular topic on trying to bring Caspian gas to Europe. We believe that Azerbaijan is reliable partner for that”.
