Council of Europe to celebrate anniversary of Azerbaijan's membership

The Council of Europe will mark the anniversary of Azerbaijan's accession to this authoritative international structure. Strasbourg will host the concert and an official reception to mark the 10th anniversary of Azerbaijan's accession to the CoE on Jan.25-26, Azerbaijani Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe, Ambassador Arif Mammadov told Trend today.

An Azerbaijani government delegation including Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfaz Garayev, Supreme Court Chairman Ramiz Rzayev and other officials, will leave Azerbaijan for Strasbourg to attend the anniversary celebrations, he said.

On Jan. 25, 2001 Azerbaijan officially joined the Council of Europe, taking a series of commitments to ensure the country's democratic values, freedom of speech and human rights.
