07 September 2009 [14:18] - TODAY.AZ
The Azerbaijani Constitutional court has received claims concerning the municipalities.
Some chairmen and members of the municipalities have been interrogated in court concerning certain cases. The court decided that the legislative acts on these cases were outdated, Chairman of the Azerbaijani Constitutional Court Farhad Abdullayev said.

So far, the court has not received any claims concerning the discrepancy between municipal constitutional acts and the law.

Citizens prefer to solve disputes through the courts if there are a lot of complaints against the municipalities.

Although citizens have the right to appeal against the unlawfulness of the municipal acts directly to the Constitutional Court, the court has not received any appeals yet, Abdullayev added.

He said according to civil procedural law, everyone has a right to appeal to the court in connection with municipal acts and citizens favor restoring their violated rights via courts .

He said the relevant activities on legal education for residents and members of municipalities in connection with this issue is significant. "Citizens must know to which court they may appeal," Abdullayev added.
