Venezuelan president arrives in Turkmenistan

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez arrived in the Turkmen capital of Ashgabat on Sunday to start his official visit to the Central Asian nation, Xinhua reported.
It is the first visit a South American leader paid to Turkmenistan.

The goal of his visit is to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the fields of politics, economy, science and energy.

Chavez will meet his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedow during his stay.

Before arriving in the capital city, the president has visited Libya, Algeria, Syria and Iran.

The 11-day official tour which began on Aug. 31 will also take him to Belarus, Russia and Spain.
