EU stresses Azerbaijan's efforts for conduction of good elections

The text of the statement was released Tuesday by the French embassy to Azerbaijan.

The document says that EU is marking the efforts for the good conduction of elections, as well as the amendments, introduced to the Electoral Code, based on some recommendations of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe and OSCE/ODIHR.

"The European Union calls on the Azerbaijani authorities to continue efforts for execution of international commitments in the sphere of democratic pluralism and freedom of mass media", says the statement. It reads that EU confirms its loyalty to continued support of development of democratic institutions in Azerbaijan in the framework of the European Neighborhood Policy.

At the same time, the document notes that the elections still did not meet international democratic standards in the sense of organization of public debates, holding voting and calculation of votes.

States, which are candidates for EU accession, Croatia, Macedonia, countries of the process of stability and association and potential candidates Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and member-states of the European Free Exchange Association, members of European economic area Iceland and Norway also joined the statement.
