Azerbaijan and Turkey are two states and one nation, and Armenia should know this, said Turkish MP from Justice and Development Party (AKP) Metin Gundogdu, during the 52nd Meeting of the PABSEC Cultural, Educational and Social Affairs Committee in Yerevan, Trendreports referring to the Turkish media.

According to Gundogdu, Turkey’s position on Azerbaijan and the fraternal relations between the two countries will remain unchanged. He noted that Armenia should withdraw from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan and fulfill the conditions necessary for the resolution of the conflict.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
