Army Games - 2017 successfully wrap up

The International Army Games – 2017,a spectacular two-week competition bringing together armies of dozens of countries, successfully wrapped up at the Alabino training ground near Moscow on August 12.

The Games, which started in Russia on July 29, were attended by more than 150 teams from 28 countries. Different stages of the competition were hosted by five countries – Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan and China.

“Tank Biathlon,” “Sniper Frontier,” “Aviadarts,” “Seaborne Assault,” “Sea Cup,” “Masters of Artillery Fire” – these are only some of the 28 competitions the International Army Games – 2017 included.

Over 3,500 servicemen from various areas – rocket troops and tank crews, snipers, pilots and marines, as well as doctors and cooks, and many others had the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and represent the armies of their countries.

Following the two weeks of fierce competition, the winners of the International Army Games – 2017 became known. Russia, collecting as many as 19 gold medals, won the Games. It was followed by China with seven gold medals, and Kazakhstan which was the first three times. Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Iran, Uzbekistan and Venezuela are also among the top-10 teams.

The servicemen of the Azerbaijan Armed Forces have represented the country at a high level in such contests as "Sea Cup," "Tank Biathlon," "Field Kitchen," "Sniper Frontier" and "Masters of Artillery Fire" held within the framework of the International Army Games – 2017. The national army cooks won the third place in the "Field Kitchen" contest and were awarded the bronze medal of the Games.

Moreover, Azerbaijan hosted the “Sea Cup” competition held within the Army Games on August 1-11. As many as 300 personnel of the Navies of Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran and Kazakhstan were involved in the contest, which was held in three stages – artillery firing, ship damage control, ship crew skills and rescue contest. Representatives of the Armed Forces of Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain observed the competition.

The crews of Russia’s Grad Sviyazhsk small-size missile ship and the Azerbaijani G-124 gunship shared the first place in the Sea Cup. Both teams received 245 points. The Joshan missile boat, which represented the Iranian Navy, came in second after gaining 234 points, while the Kazakh Saryarka gunship garnered 227 points and came in third.

By and large, this year, the International Army Games have again showed that this competition is a great opportunity for the world countries to practice their military skills. No wonder the participant countries have already confirmed that they will join the Games next year.

The skills and combat readiness of the Azerbaijani Army are growing year by year, as the country’s Armed Forces regularly conduct military exercises. The Azerbaijani army is supplied with modern weapons and technical equipment for maintaining a high level of combat capability. Without any doubt, participation in the International Army Games will further strengthen the Azerbaijani Army.
