The state-run Azerkhalcha Company plans to employ carpet weavers from the Jojug Marjanli village, liberated from the Armenian occupation in April 2016.

Jabrayil region’s Jojug Marjanli village, which was ruined by the enemy in the past, has been rebuilt in a short time. In June 2017, the village welcomed native inhabitants, who had to leave the village in early 1990s.

Azerkhalcha President, Professor Vidadi Muradov met with the residents of the Jojug Marjanli village on August 3 and discussed the current state of the Karabakh carpet-making school and carpet weaving traditions of the Jabrayil region, as well as prospects for development of carpet weaving among the population of the village.

Muradov noted that the Jabrayil region was historically one of the centers of the carpet weaving in Azerbaijan. Here, wool and lint-free carpets were woven based on the Karabakh, Mugan, Tabriz, and Ardebil patterns, as well as carpets with the corresponding local ornament.

As in other regions of Azerbaijan, the carpet weaving in Jabrayil was a sphere of professional activity, where women were massively engaged in.

“While studying the Karabakh carpet-making school, we have collected information about masters from the currently occupied Shusha, Agdam, Lachin, Kalbajar, Zangilan, Khojaly, Khojavend, Khankendi, and Jabrayil regions. Analyzes carried out by "Azerkhalcha" show that all regions of Azerbaijan have enough weavers and interested persons who want to engage in carpet weaving,” he said.

During the meeting with the villagers, the sides also considered the issue of employment of these weavers in the Fizuli branch of “Azerkhalcha”.

“Roughly 20-25 carpet weavers from this village will be provided with permanent job in the branch. Those who wish to master this profession will be attracted to the training and preparatory courses,” he said.

The first branch of Azerkhalcha, established under the presidential decree in May 2016, was opened in the front zone - Horadiz settlement of the Fizuli region. The branch in Horadiz represents the Karabakh carpet-making school, which is one of the historic centers of Azerbaijan`s carpet-making industry.

Currently, the branch employs 150 carpet weavers and 10 administrative workers.

The construction of the branches in other regions has been already begun. Firstly, the branches of Azerkhalcha are expected to open in Agdam, Tovuz, Aghstafa, Qazakh, Shamkir, Quba, Ismayilli, Khachmaz regions.

Gorgeous colors, patterns and textures – beautiful Azerbaijani carpets – all these are the fruit of masters’ painstaking labor.

Unique Azerbaijani carpets are well-known all over the world for their quality and high artistic value. Besides, amazing and fantastic carpets of Azerbaijan represent a real mystery, leading one inside the fairy tales full of majestic feelings.

The Land of Fire has seven carpet producing regions including Baku, Shirvan, Guba, Tabriz, Karabakh, Ganja and Gazakh and each of them had its own technology, typical patterns and colors.

Colorful Karabakh carpets, which are classified in four groups, represent a fabulous symphony of the most delicate shades of the amazing Karabakh nature.
