Mubariz Gurbanli: No place for religious fanaticism, radicalism in Azerbaijan

There is no place for religious fanaticism and radicalism in Azerbaijan, said Mubariz Gurbanli, the Chairman of the State Committee on Religious Associations.

Gurbanli noted that the State Committee, from the first day of its creation, has expanded its activity in this direction, corresponding work has been carried out jointly with various structures, and this activity continues.

The chairman noted that relations between the state and religion in Azerbaijan are successfully developing today on the basis of the concept defined by great leader Heydar Aliyev.

He noted that favorable conditions were created in Azerbaijan for representatives of different religions to conduct their religious rites.

Last year, 105 religious communities passed state registration in Azerbaijan, according to the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations. Of these, 101 are Islamic and four are non-Islamic.

The total number of registered religious structures reached 749, of which 721 were Islamic and 28 were non-Islamic.

About 2,200 mosques, seven synagogues, 14 churches both Catholics and Orthodox are operating in the country. Today more than 3,000 NGOs, hundreds of media outlets, 55 political parties, and communities belonging to different religions operate freely in Azerbaijan.
