Turkish gendarmerie commander arrives in Baku

The commander of the Turkish gendarmerie forces, Army General Yashar Guler has arrived in Azerbaijan, where the troops of the two countries will soon hold joint drills.

The general visited the Alley of Honors and paid tribute to the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev and prominent academician Zarifa Aliyeva on April 26.

Guler also visited the Alley of Martyrs and the monument for Turkish martyrs.

The general is expected to meet with Azerbaijan’s Interior Minister Ramil Usubov, Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov, chief of the State Border Service Elchin Guliyev and other officials.

During the meetings, the parties will discuss prospects of development of cooperation between various law enforcement agencies of Azerbaijan and Turkey.

The Armed Forces of Azerbaijan and Turkey will hold live-fire joint tactical exercises on May 1-5.

The joint exercises will involve armored vehicles, artillery systems and mortars, military and transport helicopters, as well as air defense units and anti-aircraft missile units equipped with modern defensive systems to protect groups from the air.
