Armenian troops breach truce 130 times throughout the day

The Armenian armed units shattered ceasefire with Azerbaijan a total of 130 times throughout the day, Azerbaijan`s Defense Ministry reported on March 28.

The Armenian armed forces, stationed in Armenia`s Paravakar village and nameless hills in Ijevan district, Chinari village in Berd district, nameless hills in Krasnoselsk district, subjected to fire the positions of the Azerbaijani armed forces located in Bala Jafarli, Kamarli and Gushchu Ayrim villages in Gazakh district, Munjuglu, Aghbulag and Kokhanabi villages in Tovuz district, Kohnegishlag village in Aghstafa district and nameless hills in Gadabay district.

The ceasefire was also violated in Goyarkh and Chilaburt villages in Tartar district, Bash Garvand, Yusifjanli, Garagashli and Merzili villages in Aghdam district, Gorgan, Horadiz, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Ashagi Veyselli and Garakhanbayli villages in Fuzuli district, Kuropatkino village in Khojavand district, Mehdili village in Jabrayil district as well as nameless hills in Tartar, Goranboy, Jabrayil, Khojavand and Fuzuli districts.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
