Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic will discuss the prospects of political cooperation during the consultations between the two countries’ foreign ministries, the Azerbaijani Embassy in the Czech Republic told Trend Jan. 13.

The talks are expected to be held in the first half of 2017 in Prague.

The parties are expected to discuss the prospects of a political dialogue in both bilateral and multilateral formats, the cooperation within international organizations, as well as deepening of cooperation in culture and education and the development of trade and economic relations, the embassy said.

The consultations will be held between the Azerbaijani and Czech deputy foreign ministers.

Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov will lead the Azerbaijani delegation in the talks.

The parties are also expected to mull the prospects of cooperation within the GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development and the Visegrad Group.

The GUAM format was created by the post-Soviet states in 1997 during the summit of heads of states of the EU in Strasbourg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined the format and four years later withdrew. In 2006, Ukraine and Azerbaijan announced plans to further increase the GUAM member relations and established its headquarters in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev.

The Visegrad Group was established in February 1991. Hungary, Poland and Czechoslovakia were the members of the Group. After Czechoslovakia’s dissolution, the Group started to be referred to as the Visegrad Four.
