Baku, Moscow ink Mutual Assistance Protocol

Azerbaijan and Russia sealed a Mutual Assistance Protocol in Baku on December 6.

The document between the interior ministries of the two countries on mutual assistance for 2017-2019 was inked as part of the visit of Russia’s Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev to the country.

Azerbaijan's Interior Minister Ramil Usubov and Kolokoltsev expressed their confidence that the protocol will contribute to expanding relations between Azerbaijani and Russian law enforcement agencies.

Usubov noted with satisfaction the positive results of mutually beneficial cooperation in recent years, including in crime detection, arrest and extradition of the criminals, conduct of joint activities in the border regions.

In turn, Kolokoltsov said that the Russian side is interested in expanding cooperation between the bodies of internal affairs of the two countries.

Then the guests were provided with information on the status of the fight against crime in Azerbaijan.

Expressing gratitude for the training assistance, Usubov expressed confidence that this visit will be an important event in the development of bilateral relations, as well as give additional impetus to the deepening of cooperation in all spheres of operational activity.

The Russian minister stressed that the declaration signed in Baku at the trilateral summit of the heads of state of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia, will open new opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation.

Historical trilateral meeting between the heads of Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran took place in Baku on August 8 with a major point messaging peace, friendship, security and cooperation.  

During his Baku visit, Kolokoltsev was earlier received by President Ilham Aliyev, who hailed the successful development of Azerbaijan-Russia bilateral relations in a variety of fields, including between law enforcement agencies and the ministries of internal affairs.

Hailing the importance of the first Baku Summit of the heads of state of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia, President Aliyev said the event aimed to strengthen regional security measures as well.
