E-graphic image of Caspian Sea coastal strip to be developed

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on October 4 on amendments to the presidential decree from January 15 2016 "On application of the Law" On Amendments to the Land Code of Azerbaijan" adopted on December 18, 2015".

The Cabinet of Ministers was tasked within a month to approve a graphical representation of the coastal strip in 20-50 meters belonging to the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea in electronic format (compiled in ArcG?S program in the mdb format, with enhanced electronic signature) and to inform the president about this.

The State Committee for Property Affairs was tasked to ensure the placement of the graphical representation in electronic format on its official web page for 10 days after its approval.

The Caspian Sea, situated on the border of Europe and Asia, was in the focus of attention of famous travelers, scientists and state officials for its beauty, richness and diversity since the ancient times.

The Caspian Sea – is a lake with no outlets, which is washing shores of the five countries: Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Russia.

The Sea plays an important role in the transport corridors, along with being an important part of the international and regional projects. 

The Caspian Sea is significant for geographical position. The countries surrounding it, the resources within the sea and its strategic location in the middle of the Eurasian continent are the main factors that give the sea its true geopolitical importance.

A key problem to further development in the region is the unresolved status of the Caspian Sea and the water boundaries among the five littoral states.

The legal status have been remained unsolved during the past two decades, preventing development and exploitation of its disputable oil and gas fields and creating obstacles to the realization of major energy projects.
