The results of settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will not bring any unpleasant surprises, Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on July 14.

Zakharova made the remarks during a briefing July 14, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

The main thing is the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, she said.
Zakharova added that it is necessary to exclude the potential for new bloodshed and new victims.

Commenting on the visit of Turkey’s foreign minister to Baku on July 15 for discussions on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, Zakharova noted that any constructive contribution to the process will benefit the conflict’s settlement.

Azerbaijan and Armenia for over two decades have been locked in conflict, which emerged over Armenian territorial claims. Since the 1990s war, Armenian armed forces have occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions. The UN Security Council has adopted four resolutions on Armenian withdrawal, but they have not been enforced to this day.
