Azerbaijan has lambasted the international community for creating opportunities for foreign travel for representatives of the separatist regime established in occupied Azerbaijani territories.

Hikmat Hajiyev, Azerbaijani foreign ministry spokesman, said it was unacceptable to provide Bako Sahakyan, who calls himself a representative of the Nagorno-Karabakh separatist regime, the opportunity to travel to other countries.

He told Trend that such visits propagandize the separatist regime and provocative goals of Armenia and harm the resolution of the conflict through negotiations.

Armenian media reported that Sahakyan had visited Moscow as part of the so-called “days” dedicated to the separatist regime in the city and the All-Armenian Fund telethon in Russia.

Hajiyev said the Azerbaijani embassy in Russia had officially investigated this issue under the instructions of the foreign ministry.

In response to the embassy’s appeal, Moscow said it wasn’t informed of the visit and activities, according to Hajiyev.

He went on to add that the foreign ministry cannot comment on the basis of only Armenian media's reports. Once the organizers of the mentioned visit and their goals are identified, the Russian side, through diplomatic channels, will be informed of Azerbaijan's position.

Earlier, Azerbaijan had expressed concern to the United Kingdom over the possible visit of the head of the separatist regime in Nagorno-Karabakh.

For over two decades, Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in a conflict that emerged over Armenia's territorial claims against its South Caucasus neighbor. In the aftermath of a war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces, as part of a separatist regime, have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions.

A fragile ceasefire has been in place since 1994, but long-standing efforts by the United States, Russian, and French mediators have been largely fruitless so far.

Armenia has not yet implemented any of the four U.N. Security Council resolutions urging a pullout from its neighboring country's territories.
