President Aliyev attends G20 Summit in Antalya

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has joined the G20 Summit taking place in Turkey’s Antalya on November 15-16.

At the Antalya International Airport on November 14, President Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva were welcomed by top-ranking state and government officials of Turkey.

Following, Azerbaijan’s President, his spouse and vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva attended a dinner reception hosted on behalf of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his spouse Emine Erdogan in honor of heads of states and governments, international organizations who attend the G20 Summit, and their spouses.

Invited by host Turkey, Azerbaijan is attending the G20 Leaders Summit as a guest.

The Turkish president greeted President Aliyev and other heads of state and international organizations on November 15. The participants of the summit posed together for photographs.

President Aliyev has addressed discussions on economic development, investment and employment as part of the G20 Summit in Antalya.

Saying that invited by President Erdogan, Azerbaijan is for the first time attending such a high-profile event; the head of state thanked the Turkish leader for the invitation.

The Azerbaijani president offered his condolences to the Turkish and French people over recent terrorist attacks in Turkey and France, and said Azerbaijan stands by these countries.

President Aliyev further highlighted Azerbaijan’s economic accomplishments, and spoke of the work done to ensure favorable investment climate, remove unemployment and dramatically reduce poverty in the country.

During his visit to Antalya, the Azerbaijani president has also attended a reception on behalf of Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, and a working dinner hosted by President Erdogan.

The G20 countries account for 85 percent of the world economy, 90 percent of the global Gross Domestic Product, and 80 percent of the global trade.

Accounting for the two-third of the world’s population, G20 members include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union.
