NGO's to operate under new rules

Azerbaijan’s Cabinet of Ministers has approved the procedure on submission of data by both national NGOs and local offices of foreign NGOs on the amount of donations and information about persons, who issued grants.

NGOs should submit information about the amount of donations and the persons who issued grants to the Justice Ministry within 15 days.

The financial contributions shall be made through the bank accounts of the NGOs. Charity NGOs can accept in cash only donations worth no more than 200 manat ($190).

Performing any operation on donations, which were made without submitting the relevant information, will be recognized as illegal.

So far, Azerbaijan has registered up to 3,000 NGOs.

The Council of State Support for Development of NGOs operating in the country for seven years carries out functions like the formation of a new model of relations in community, modernization of the civil society institutions, promotion of the activities of non-governmental organizations in the field of protection of the national interests, and their involvement in the solution of social problems.

In 2008-2014, more than 2,000 projects, worth 20 million manats (over $ 19 million), were funded by the Council.
