Mexico interested in cooperating with Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Natig Aliyev met Mexican Ambassador to the country Juan Rodrigo Labardini Flores in Baku.

The sides exchanged views on prospects of cooperation, as well as various directions of relations between the two countries.

They also stressed the importance of formalizing the legal base for the energy cooperation.

The ambassador noted Mexico is interested in cooperating with Azerbaijan in the field of energy.

Flores said trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Mexico hits $2 million. He also added Mexico is keen onincreasing this turnover, saying energy cooperation would play an important role in this regard.

Aliyev, in his turn, highlighted steadily developing relations between Azerbaijan and Mexico, saying cooperation in energy field would contribute to strengthening bonds.

Mexico recognized Azerbaijan's independence in 1991 and diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992.

Azerbaijan's Embassy in Mexico was established in 2006. Diplomatic representation of Mexico was established in Azerbaijan in 2014.

Azerbaijan attaches great importance to development of relations with Mexico.

Many documents were signed between the sides, including a Memorandum of Understanding on "Cooperation and inter-parliamentary dialogue". The document is aimed to serve as a legal basis for a new stage in the development of the two countries' inter-parliamentary relations.
