President Ilham Aliyev reviewed ongoing construction of road and transportation infrastructure around the Baku Olympic Stadium

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his wife, chairperson of the Baku 2015 First European Games Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva have attended the opening of the Baku Olympic Stadium.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Baku Olympic Stadium was held on June 6, 2011. It was attended by President Ilham Aliyev, FIFA President Joseph Blatter and UEFA President Michel Platini, prominent representatives of the international football community, leaders of national federations and football veterans.

A 82,000 square metres green area was laid out around the stadium. The head of state cut the ribbon symbolizing the official inauguration of the Baku Olympic Stadium.

Minister of youth and sport Azad Rahimov informed the head of state of the work done in the stadium. It was said that the six-storey stadium occupies an area of nearly 50 hectares. The pitch has four entrance gates, while the stands have 26 gates. The 68,000-seat Baku Olympic Stadium has a 3,100-car parking lot

President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva were informed of the work accomplished in the interior of the stadium.

The facility consists of the main and auxiliary stadiums, an auxiliary building, as well as sections for VIP, CIP, media and disabled spectators.

The right to host the inaugural European Games was awarded to the city of Baku at the 41st General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees. Azerbaijan`s bid to host the Games was supported by 38 countries. More than 6000 athletes from 49 countries will compete in 20 sports in the Games that will take place from June 12-28.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva have reviewed the work accomplished under the environmental project around Lake Boyukshor and adjacent areas.

Minister of economy and industry Shahin Mustafayev informed the head of state on what has been done under the project. It was noted that the project is implemented under “The State Program for the Socio-Economic Development of the City of Baku and its Suburbs in 2014- 2016” approved by the President`s order dated 17 January 2014 and a decree on additional measures on improvement, protection and usage of the environment of Lake Boyukshor.

The majority of the events of the first European Games will be held in Baku Olympic Stadium complex located on the eastern shore of Lake Boyukshor. The site will receive many guests, sportsmen and tourists.

The project to restore the ecology of the lake is implemented in two phases. The first phase will be completed by this May. Under this first phase, a 1.570m-long dam was built to divide the lake into two parts.

It was said that the main construction work under the second phase has already been completed. The second phase will end by 2020.

President Ilham Aliyev praised the work accomplished under the project, and gave his instructions and recommendations.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has reviewed the progress of construction of road and transportation infrastructure around the Baku Olympic Stadium.

Minister of transport Ziya Mammadov told the head of state that the construction of the first section of Hasan Aliyev Street-Ziya Bunyadov Avenue-Olympic Stadium road continued on schedule, with much of the work already accomplished. The second road is one kilometre in length, and it features 2-6 lanes. Three bridges were built along the road. The first bridge is 205m, while the second is 176m in length. Designed for pedestrians, the third bridge is 143m in length. There are also a 900m-long pedestrian passage and two tunnels here.

The President was also informed of the work carried out in the second section of Hasan Aliyev Street-Ziya Bunyadov Avenue-Olympic Stadium road.

President Ilham Aliyev gave his instructions to carry out the construction work at a high level.
