While Baku and the OSCE Minsk Group are actively working to secure a breakthrough towards the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Armenia's armed forces have continued to infringe on Azerbaijan's sovereignty by conducting attacks on the line of contact, thus harming hopes for a peaceful solution. Two decades on Armenia refuses to exercise restraint.

The ceasefire agreement which Armenia and Azerbaijan signed back in 1994, stands threatened as Armenia has periodically violated its terms through armed skirmishes against Azerbaijan.

On March 12, Azerbaijan armed forces foiled yet another sabotage attempt by an Armenian reconnaissance group on the frontline, the Defense Ministry reported.

The group of Armenian saboteurs fell under heavy fire as militants moved across the line of contact. The armed militants were forced to run on as the soldiers began shooting at their positions following some heavy shelling.

Unfortunately, Azerbaijani servicemen Anar Atayev was killed in the exchange of fire, another Azerbaijani martyr and hero. The ministry delivered its condolences to the martyr's family.

Moreover, officials confirmed that Armenian armed forces breached the terms of the armistice at several points on the line of contact over 60 times in the past 24 hours.

The Azerbaijani ministry blamed Armenia's leaders for such provocations, warning that Baku would not stand idly while its people and land are being threatened by a belligerent entity.

While more efforts are needed to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh's conflict, Armenia has turned down all attempts at a breakthrough.

The Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven adjacent districts, which historically have belonged to Azerbaijan and have been recognized as belonging to Azerbaijan by the international community, have remained under Armenian occupation for over two decades.

Back in 1992, following a violent and bloody conflict, Armenia occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts plunging the South Caucasus region into a protracted conflict.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.
