Armenia violates ceasefire with Azerbaijan over 65 times within 24 hours

Armenian armed forces have broken the ceasefire with Azerbaijan 68 times in numerous positions by using heavy machine guns in the last 24 hours, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said on Feb.3.

Armenian armed forces located in the villages of Paravakar, Berkaber, Vazashen of Armenia’s Ijevan district and Barekamavan of Noyemberyan district opened fire at the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces located in the villages of Kohnegishlag of the Agstafa district, Qizilhajili, Qaymaqli and the nameless heights of the Gazakh district.

Azerbaijani forces located in the villages of Aghdam and Alibeyli of the Tovuz district took fire from the positions located in the villages of Aygepar and Mosesgerh of Armenia’s Berd district.

Azerbaijani positions located on the nameless heights of Gadabay district underwent fire from the positions located on the nameless heights of Armenia’s Krasnoselsk district.

At the same time, Azerbaijani positions took fire from the positions located near the villages of Goyarkh, Chileburt, Chayli of the Terter district, Talish, Tapgaragoyunlu of the Goranboy district, Novruzlu, Shikhlar, Sarijali, Kengerli, Yusifjanli of the Aghdam district, Gorgan, Qarakhanbayli, Ashagi Veyselli, Ashagi Seyidahmadli of the Fizuli district.

Azerbaijani positions also underwent fire from the positions located on the nameless heights of Goranboy and Khojavend districts.

The opposing side was silenced with return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
