Baku, Islamabad agree to enchance military cooperation

Baku and Islamabad agreed to enhance the scope and level of mutually beneficial cooperation between their armed forces.
The agreement was reached at a meeting between Azerbaijani Defense Minister, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of Pakistan, General Rashad Mahmood in Islamabad on November 18, the Pakistani television channel Geo TV reported.
Colonel General Hasanov and General Mahmood discussed the matters related to mutual cooperation and security in the region.
Azerbaijani defense minister’s two-day visit to Pakistan started on November 18.
The meetings with the leadership of the Pakistani state and armed forces, to be held as part of Hasanov’s visit will discuss the military cooperation issues.
Pakistan was among of the first countries that recognized the independence of Azerbaijan on December 12, 1991. The diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on June 9, 1992. The Pakistan Embassy to Azerbaijan was opened on March 12, 1993.
Azerbaijani Embassy to Pakistan was opened on August 24, 1997.
Pakistan and Azerbaijan enjoy good relations in various spheres. Pakistan supported Azerbaijan during and after the Nagorno-Karabakh War and it is the only country that does not recognize Armenia.
