Azerbaijan`s tricolor flag raised to mark Flag Day

Azerbaijanis celebrated National Flag Day for the fifth time on November 9.

Hundreds of people gathered in the National Flag Square in Baku to watch a ceremony to raise Azerbaijan`s tricolor as the country marked National Flag Day.

The event began with the performance of a military orchestra and performance of the national anthem by children's choir. The event was open to the public.

Dozens of people carried on the huge flag on their shoulders, and then lifted up it to a height of 162 meters. The flag measures 70 by 35 meters and weights 350 kg.

The National Flag Square was officially opened by President Ilham Aliyev on September 1, 2010.

Emblem of the Azerbaijan Republic, the map of the country and the text of the national anthem installed on the square were made of gilded bronze.

Also, the march under the slogan “Our flag is a symbol of statehood and independence” was held in Baku, Sumgayit and other Azerbaijanis regions such as Ganja, Barda and Sabirabad.

More than 500 people attended this honorable march, distributing booklets containing information about the national flag and the history of the Flag Day.

Heading to the Flag Square, the volunteers wanted to convey the public the difference and importance of this day for the Azerbaijani people.
