CIS leaders sign documents on border control, migration

The leaders of the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) have signed several documents on the border control, migration, combating the spread of drugs and human trafficking, as well as financial intelligence.

These documents were signed at a meeting of the Council of Heads of States of the CIS in Minsk on October 10.

The meeting of the Council of Heads of States of the CIS adopted a statement on preservation and strengthening of international drugs control system, as well as made a decision on the concept of CIS cooperation in combating human trafficking.

Also, the event participants signed an agreement on the procedure of formation and implementation of joint expert groups of border agencies to quickly respond to the threat of border security at the external borders of the CIS.

A decision on the program of cooperation of the CIS countries in combating illegal migration in 2015-2019, an amendment to the agreement on the formation of the Council of heads of financial intelligence units of the CIS countries, as well as an address to the international community in connection with the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War were among the adopted documents.

Speaking at a briefing on the results of the meeting, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said the signed documents lay the basis for further cooperation. He mentioned the fruitfulness of the meeting of Heads of States, which resulted with the signing of important documents.

The next meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of States will be held in Astana in autumn 2015. The exact date has not been set yet.
