Feel un-loved at work? You are not alone

08 September 2015 [18:02] - TODAY.AZ

Feeling underappreciated at work? You’re not alone.

Almost half of US workers said they “never” feel appreciated for their hard work, according to a poll conducted by jobs site Monster.com. More than one-third of Indian and German workers told Monster the same thing, according to the survey of almost 2,000 people in the US, Germany, India and the Middle East gulf.

”Employees do not feel as though they are making a difference,” said Joanie Courtney, senior vice president of Global Market Insights for Monster, in an email. In the US, that effort to make a difference leads to long work hours. A full 39% of American workers, who celebrate Labor Day (a public US holiday meant to honour working people) on 7 September, reported working more than 50 hours per week.

Despite all those hours, workers don’t feel they’re acknowledged for their efforts and contributions.

They need to show they care

Just 10% said they feel appreciated more than just occasionally, according to the poll taken in July and August. The result, said Courtney: Morale plummets.  No wonder 68% said they don’t love their jobs, according to Monster.

It’s never too late to turn morale around though, Courtney said. Managers must “recognise individuals’ work and contributions (as well as) thank them for their contributions and acknowledge their performance.” Then, managers must “lead by example with work ethic, communication and dedication to employees. They need to show they care.”
