Man going barefoot for a year to buy shoes for children

21 January 2014 [17:15] - TODAY.AZ
A Kentucky man is 48 days into his quest to go barefoot for an entire year to raise money and awareness for shoeless children around the world.

Richard Hudgins of Louisville said he began his project Dec. 4, the day before the snow fell in Louisville, and he nearly gave up immediately, reported Monday.

"Just that first hour-and-a-half, I was like no way. I can`t do this. There`s no way," Hudgins said.

Hudgins said his quest hasn`t gotten much easier since the first day.

"I`m really waiting for my feet to build up the tolerance, it hurts," he said.
He said the funds raised by the website will be put to a worthy use.

"Millions of children are without shoes and these kids are dying and having their limbs cut off just because they don`t have anything to protect their feet," he said.

Hudgins said his employers at Wild Hairz Salon and other business owners have understood about his barefoot situation.

"I haven`t had any restrictions yet, all of these business have been extremely supportive I`m so happy to live in this town that we have these businesses who are absolutely fine with it," he said.

Hudgins` had raised $2,066, enough for 52 pairs of shoes, as of Monday afternoon.
