Georgian Deputy FM fears Russia may use Moscow's terror attacks as pretext for new aggression

02 April 2010 [14:53] - TODAY.AZ
Georgian First Deputy Foreign Minister Giga Bokeria fears that the terror attacks in Moscow can be used by the Russian side as a pretext for a new aggression against Georgia. He voiced this suggestion in an interview with The Washington Times.

"The Georgian leadership was concerned that the attacks in Moscow can be used as a supply for a new aggression against Georgia", he said.

The newspaper recalls Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev's statement on the possible "Georgia trace" in the Moscow terror acts.

"Of course, this statement caused our concern for the reason that Russia may use the terrorist attacks in the subway against Georgia," Bokeria said.

Johns Hopkins University's Research Institute for Central Asia and Caucasus Director, Svante Cornell, partially agrees with this opinion.

"Moscow's recent accusations create a dangerous background", he said.
