FUTURESHORTS – largest short film festival is back!

YARAT Contemporary Art Space will host  FUTURESHORTS – largest short film festival.

The films will be shown  at Yay Gallery rooftop on May 23-24.

The screening will be organized as a part of YARAT FreeStyle Program, an open platform for everyone who looks to engage creatively with a broad and diverse audience.

This festival covers 40 countries, 100 cities, 6 continents and offers 1,400 showings per year throughout the world.  During its ten years existence, the festival has gained the attention of movie fans over a huge territory from Finland to Mexico.

The festival gives an opportunity for professionals and newcomers all over the world to become a part of an international cinematographic community. 

The Spring Season of Future Shorts includes 7 films:

1. CAROUSEL

Dir. Kal Weber 

Drama/ UK/ 2015/ 6mins 

Following a candid imparting of hard-earned life lessons, two individuals share an unexpected moment of profound connection. 

2. IMPORT 

Dir. Ena Sendijarevic 

Drama/ The Netherlands/ 2015/ 17mins 

After getting their residence permits, a Bosnian family find refuge in a small village in the Netherlands. Absurd situations arise as they try to make this new world their home

3. THE RUNNER

Dir. José Luis Montesinos 

Comedy/ Spain/ 2014/ 3mins 

5 years ago the boss closed the company and fired 300 workers. The first day that he got out to run he meets one of them.

4. A NIGHT IN TOKORIKI 

Dir. Roxana Stroe

Comedy/ Romania/ 2016/ 18mins

The whole village are out to celebrate Geanina's 18th Birthday at an improvised nightclub, where her boyfriend will give her a gift that nobody will ever forget.

5. 9 DAYS: FROM MY WINDOW IN ALEPPO

Dir. Issa Touma, Floor van de Muelen & Thomas Vroege 

Documentary/ The Netherlands/ Syria/ 2015/ 12mins 

In August 2012, Syrian Photographer Issa Touma saw young men lugging sandbags through his street. He spent the next nine days trapped in his apartment, witnessing what would be the beginning of the uprising in Aleppo. 

6. REFUGEE - NADIA TEHRAN

Dir. Nadia Tehran

Music Video/ Sweden/ Iran/ 2016/ 3mins

Nadia Tehran explores the limits of personal and political identity in the video for Refugee.

7. NOTHING STRANGER 

Dir. Pedro Collantes

Drama/ China/ The Netherlands/ Spain/ 2016/ 22mins

Years ago, Ling had a dream. Even today she can remember every detail.

YARAT is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to nurturing an understanding of contemporary art in Azerbaijan and to creating a platform for Azerbaijani art, both nationally and internationally. Based in Baku, YARAT (meaning CREATE in Azerbaijani) was founded by Aida Mahmudova in 2011.

YARAT realizes its mission through an on-going program of exhibitions, education events and festivals. YARAT facilitates exchange between local and international artistic networks including foundations, galleries and museums.
