Family Festival kicks off in Baku

Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, the most visited art museum in Baku, hosted "Family Festival" on June 25-26.

The festival was organized with support of the Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Ministry under the initiative of children's museum at the Carpet Museum and under the guidance of Asli Samadova.

During the festival, guests got acquainted with the history of Azerbaijani carpets and decorative applied art and even familiarized with process of carpet weaving. In addition, festival featured various interesting competitions and excursions.

"Family festival" is a new initiative which aims to expand the concept of the Museum, making it a place for family entertainment.

The idea of the festival is to popularize the Museum as a place of art and perfect family vacation.

Young visitors enjoyed special program, prepared by Museum staff, and open lessons for parents and children. Moreover, the festival featured 20-minute mini-tours of the Museum's collection and the history of carpet weaving.

The event involved members of different organizations, who worked with children as well as collectors of national dresses, art workers, illustrators and animators.

The project "National heritage” presented under the initiative of Asli Samedova was sponsored by UNESCO and foreign museums. The project includes a special route map "Beauty is in the details" based on the family tour of the Metropolitan Museum in New-York, association games of London's Victoria and Albert Museum, coloring books and puzzles, the contest "the Art detective" and much more.

The open lessons and games based on the materials of European network of science centers and museums (ECSITE) have been presented for the first time.

The author's reading of the tale "the Magic carpet of Ali and Zumrud" revealed the secrets of "dragon carpets" waved in Shusha in the 18^th century.
