A solo exhibition entitled “Fluid Forms” by Azerbaijani artist Faig Ahmed will be opened at the Cuadro Gallery in Dubai from September 16 to November 30.
At his upcoming solo exhibition, the Azerbaijani artist will unveil new bodies of work created during his residency with Cuadro Gallery earlier this year.
Faig Ahmed, as a visual artist, explores composition of a traditional Azerbaijan`s carpet by disjointing its structure and placing its canonic elements into open space. Ahmed`s works include hand-woven rugs encompassed in sculptural arms that extend out of thread into neon geometric forms. The artist`s signature optical illusions stretch beyond the carpet frame – a conventional rug dissembles midway, bleeding onto the floor in a meticulously woven pool of melting threads.
Faig Ahmed graduated from the Sculpture faculty at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Art in Baku in 2004. Since 2003, he has been working with various media, including painting, video and installation.
Faig Ahmed is a nominee for the Victoria and Albert Museums 3rd 'Jameel Prize'. The winner of the Jameel Prize will be announced at the end of 2014.
