Tchaikovsky`s “Nutcracker” ballet to be staged in Azerbaijan

Tchaikovsky`s world famous ballet “Nutcracker” (Shelkunchik) will be staged on the scene of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre on December 24.

The main part will be performed by honored artist Samir Samadov. Other soloists are Nigar Ibrahimova and Makar Fershtandt, while the conductor is Javanshir Jafarov.

The Nutcracker is the classics two-act ballet art. The Nutcracker was first performed in 1892 at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg. Its combination of enchanting choreography and an unforgettable score have since made it one of the best-loved of all ballets.

Clara, a young girl, creeps downstairs on Christmas Eve to retrieve her favourite present. But a mysterious magician, Drosselmeyer, is waiting to sweep her off on a magical adventure.
