Energy minister: Azerbaijan shows interest in realization of Pan-Arab gas pipeline project

07 July 2010 [15:25] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan shows interest in realization of the Pan-Arab gas pipeline project, Azerbaijani Minister of Industry and Energy Natiq Aliyev said during his meeting with Egyptian Minister of Petroleum Amin Sameh Fahmy.

"The pan-Arab gas pipeline is interesting for us," Aliyev said.

Aliyev said that the construction of a gas pipeline connecting the gas systems of Turkey and Syria, will create conditions for the transport of Azerbaijani gas through Turkish territory to Syria and Jordan.

Minister said that a package of gas agreements, including a document on the transit of Azerbaijani gas through Turkey, signed in early June, creates the conditions for the transport of gas in different directions, including Syria and Jordan.

Earlier, Syria has made a proposal to buy 1-1,5 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas for 20 years. Gas supplies can be launched from the middle of 2011, when the construction of the connecting pipeline between Turkey and Syria completes, Syrian experts said.
