The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) has confirmed its willingness to supply 12 billion cubic meters of gas to the Nabucco pipeline, Bavarian Federal and European Affairs State Minister Emilia Mueller said after a meeting with SOCAR Deputy President Elshad Nasirov.
"But about 31 billion cubic meters of gas are required for this pipeline. Negotiations are held with other countries that may participate in the project," Mueller said.
Nabucco is important for Germany from the standpoint of diversifying gas suppliers. However, it is necessary to fulfill all the legal rules to implement this project. From an economic point of view, "we must to find out how the pipeline will be supplied with gas," Mueller said.
"I am convinced that Nabucco is a necessary and important project. This project is supported by the EU, too. It is of particular importance for Germany since RWE is participating. The company has plans to build an electric power plant in Bavaria, operating on gas. The realization of Nabucco is very important to ensure this project," the minister said.
"Our main goal is to provide Germany with energy resources at the right price in the near future," Mueller said.
