Prices for railway trip in Azerbaijan may increase

"A letter with the proposals has already been submitted to the Tariff Council," Asgarov said.

He said an average price of a ticket is 3.5 manat ($4.3) at the moment.

"Compared to prices on other means of passenger transport, this figure lower several times," Asgarov said.

The economy of passenger transport has problems due to low prices for tickets, he said.

"We need to ensure the continued safety and security of passenger conveyance," said Asgarov.

Azerbaijani Railways transported more than 15 million tons of cargo and more than 4 million passengers In Jan.-Sept. 2009.
