Nakhchivan to increase electricity supply to Turkey

Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic will increase volume of electricity supply to Turkey, Nakhchivan AR Supreme Assembly Chairman Vasif Talibov said at a meeting with Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz.
Talibov said Turkey supplied 40-50 Mega watt of energy to Nakhchivan per day at a time when Nakhchivan lived hard times because of a blockade.

“But today about 16-17 mega watt of electricity is supplied from Nakhchivan to per day. The volume of electricity transmitted by Turkey from the beginning of electricity exports totaled more than 167 million kilowatt-hours till August 1, 2009. Power supply is going on. In future its volume will further be increased,” Talibov said.

He said trade turnover between Nakhchivan AR and Turkey is increasing every day.

“The trade turnover was $32 million over the first six months of 2009,” he said.

According to the agreement between Azerbaijan State Oil Company (SOCAR) and BOTAS (Turkey),  the next stage of negotiations on volume and price of Azerbaijani gas exported to Turkey with representatives of both companies was held in Nakhchivan. The negotiations ended with signing of a protocol of intent.
