Azerbaijan's resources are enough to fill Nabucco at initial stage of project: FM

18 June 2009 [17:38] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan's resources are enough to fill the Nabucco gas pipeline at the initial stage, but there are many problems associated with this project, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said, when making statement at the Japanese Institute of International Affairs as part of his business visit to Tokyo, ITAR-TASS reported.

"At the first stage of Nabucco - an ambitious project with the pumping from 30 billion to 36 billion cubic meters of gas a year - this amount can be provided by only Azerbaijan," the foreign minister said. "But there are many other milestones where there are difficulties."

"Since the project covers more than one country, it is necessary to coordinate with each of them a fee for transit, tariffs, conditions under which the gas will pass," the Azerbaijani minister said. "It is also important for EU to have a common position on this issue," he said. "The European Commission stated its interest in Nabucco, but if we take individual countries, they have - different approaches to this issue."

"There are many milestones over which professionals should continue work," the minister added. "At the same time, there are many other projects, such as the Turkey-Greece-Italy, Trans Adriatic pipeline, South Stream, White Stream, and they are all currently under discussion."
