Azerbaijan to attend meeting of CIS Council on railway

A meeting of the CIS Council on Rail Transport will be held in Minsk
on May 21-22, Press Secretary of the Azerbaijani State Railway Office
(ASRO) Nadir Azmammadov said on May 14.
"The ASRO will take part in this meeting, but we do not have
information about the agenda," Azmammadov said.

He said Azerbaijan will be represented at the meeting with the
delegation, led by ASRO Head Arif Asgarov.

The CIS Council for Rail Transport and its acting executive body - the
Board of Direction have been established by heads of governments of
the Commonwealth Agreement, dated Feb. 14, 1992 to ensure stable
economic relations, their strengthening and development.

Members of the Council are the CIS countries' railway administrations.
 Railway administrations of Latvia and Bulgaria will attend the
meeting as associate members, as well as Estonia and Lithuania will
partake in the meeting in accordance with treaties. A representative
of the International Confederation of Trade Union of Railway and
Transport Builders will take part in the meeting as an observer.

The Board examines and decides issues on the operational activities of
the railways, joint use and maintenance of freight cars and
containers, conditions of transport of passengers and cargo, security
of train traffic in international communication, development of
accounting systems and mutual reports on the implemented work and
services, research and technical cooperation and other issues.
